Dr. Byron A. Santos practices comprehensive Ophthalmology, with emphasis in Glaucoma, Cataract and Refractive Surgery and Plastic Surgery of the Eyelids. He was born in Guatemala, graduated from Bowdoin College in Brunswick Maine, obtained his medical degree at the University of San Carlos, Guatemala, and completed his Ophthalmology training at the "Rodolfo Robles Eye and Ear Hospital" in Guatemala, where he was Chief Resident. He completed three Post-Doctoral fellowships at St. Louis University and at the O'Donnell Eye Institute. He joined the medical staff at the O'Donnell Eye Institute in 1986. He has published articles in several journals and has been a primary investigator in the Excimer Laser FDA clinical trials. He is a member in good standing of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.
Dr. Levent Akduman is an ophthalmologist, vitreoretinal and uveitis specialist. He was born in Ankara, Turkey and completed his primary training in Turkey. He completed two fellowships in the fields of Uveitis (inflammatory and infectious eye diseases) and vitreoretinal disorders at Washington University, Department of Ophthalmology in St. Louis, Missouri between 1993 and 1996. He has been practicing at the O'Donnell Eye Institute since 1998. Dr. Akduman is also an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at Saint Louis University. Dr. Akduman has written book chapters, 2 books, more than 50 scientific articles on diseases of retina and inflammatory conditions of the eye. He is well recognized nationwide and abroad, and has presented or lectured in more than 100 clinical and research ophthalmology meetings worldwide. Dr. Akduman is a member of many prestigious Ophthalmologic Societies including Association for Research and Vision in Ophthalmology, American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Uveitis Society and American Society of Retina Specialists. His main area of interest is Age-Related Macular degeneration, uveitis and diabetic retinopathy. He has been either a principal investigator or co-investigator in several nation-wide clinical research trials on Age-Related Macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy to help find better treatment modalities in these potentially blinding common diseases. He and the O'Donnell Eye Institute are dedicated to provide the most recent treatment modalities to patients with severe eye problems.
Dr. Farheen Kazi is a comprehensive ophthalmologist with a scope of practice including cataract surgery, glaucoma, oculoplastics and pediatric ophthalmology. She was born in New Jersey but has lived in the St. Louis area for the majority of her life. She received her B.A. in Biology from Saint Louis University then went to the Saint Louis University School of Medicine where she received her medical degree. She completed her ophthalmology residency at the Saint Louis Unviersity Eye Institute in 2009 where she was given the “Most Outstanding Resident” award. She is a member in good standing with the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and the Saint Louis Ophthalmological Society.
Dr. Robert Brusatti, O'Donnell Eye Institute's optometrist on staff. He is a native of St. Louis and graduated with honors from the UM-St. Louis School of Optometry in 1993, where he remains an adjunct assistant professor. Following graduation, he completed a 1 year fellowship in ocular disease and surgical management and has been with the O'Donnell Eye Institute since 1993. He is a published author and has been an investigator for numerous FDA clinical trials.
